Problem Discovery
There are many pets waiting for adoption in shelters, but potential adopters often struggle to find relevant and trustworthy information.
Based on an online survey conducted during the pandemic, it was discovered that:
Information about shelter locations and pet details is not easily accessible.
Potential adopters don’t know where the nearest shelters are.
There’s a lack of trust in the information available online.
Main Problem: Limited and untrustworthy access to information about shelters and adoptable pets.
What I Did
As part of a one-week design sprint with iXDA Malang, the following steps were taken:
Research & Interviews:
Identified three main user personas: potential adopters, pet owners who want to surrender their pets, and shelter managers.
Focused on the adopter persona for the initial iteration.
Solution Design:
Developed a mobile app allowing users to find pets based on location and preferences.
Core features included searching for nearby shelters, detailed pet information, and pet care tips.
Design & Prototyping:
Created initial sketches, wireframes, and mockups using Figma.
Built a brand identity, including color scheme and typography.
User Testing:
Conducted usability testing with 15 users via Maze.
Adjusted the app’s language to Bahasa Indonesia to ensure better understanding.
Result
Usability Score: Scored 68, indicating that most users could use the app as intended, although there’s room for improvement.
User Testing Findings:
High misclick rate in early stages (login and city selection).
Users began to understand the navigation during the pet search and interaction stages.
All users successfully used the chat feature with the shelter.
Reflection:
Padding and icons need to be improved for better intuitiveness.
It's important to guide users during testing to help them complete tasks.
Future iterations will expand to support pet owners who want to surrender their pets and shelter managers.
